Karis has a degree in Nutrition and initially planned to be a dietitian, working on Whiston Hospital’s dietetic department. She had roles in the national 5-A-day campaign and childhood obesity programmes before training to become a teacher in 2007. She joined Education Connect after 12 years in education and remains a teacher, head of department as well as a lead for boys’ progress and achievement. Karis cares deeply about social mobility and empowering young people to take their opportunities. One of the ways to achieve this, she believes, is through effective staff development. Since joining The Challenge Academy Trust Karis has been involved in sharing best practice and has become an advocate for CPD.
