The MFL Hub is made up of subject leaders from five of the schools within TCAT as well as Priestley College.

It meets every half term to share good practice, discuss pedagogy as well as what the latest evidence and research into MFL teaching has revealed.

Ideas and new approaches are trialled by members who then report back with their findings.

Oxplore links allow pupils to attend events organised by Oxford University.

Martine Molyneux leads the hub meetings and visits each school to carry out reviews, highlighting good practice and also suggesting improvements.

“I feel the hub has developed into a supportive, positive group where we are all comfortable to discuss our practice openly and honestly as well as ask for support if necessary,” says Martine.

One key component of the hub is the membership of Priestley College as all members see the continued study of languages at sixth form as important.

Last year teachers from Priestley gave up their time to offer sessions to the schools’ most able pupils, supporting them to achieve top grades at GCSE.

“Having the links to Priestley also breaks down barriers in terms of pupils being confident to go onto further education,” said Martine.
